NAG is a group of local enthusiasts engaged in the study of the history and archaeology of the district around our village. Navenby lies about 10 miles south of Lincoln, on the old Roman road called Ermine Street (known locally as the High Dyke). Lincoln was a major Roman settlement: the name derives from Lindum Colonia - 'the city by the pool'. Evidence suggests that Navenby was a significant staging post along Ermine Street, being half a day's march from Lincoln. Remains of Bronze Age and earlier settlements have also been uncovered.
